With over 10 years of experience, Timothy Tripp A.K.A. “The Real Trippy” is one of Orange County’s premier barbers. We got the chance to sit down with him at his barbershop, and ask a few questions about his daily life, running a barbershop, and his thoughts on the barber industry.

How did you begin your barber journey?

2011 is when my barber career started. I got into barbering for two reasons; I was over working dead end jobs and with a felony on my record it was hard to find a “good” job. Barbering allowed me to create an income on my own terms.

What is your favorite aspect about Barbering?

I love to network. Whether it's been close friends or acquaintances, barbering has allowed me to connect with so many individuals. I have had the opportunity to learn and teach, which has opened so many doors for me.

How was the transition from working for someone to running your own barbershop?

In 2017 I was presented the opportunity to take over a barbershop and turn it into my own. We quickly changed the name to “Tripp’s Barbershop”. After putting my own stamp on it, the passion only grew for barbering and managing my own shop. I get to choose who I work with, and now I work alongside some of my closest friends.

What are your thoughts on the current barber industry?

It’s changed a lot. There is a perception that barbering is easy and it’s quick money. The people that are in it for a quick buck are learning that it takes hard work and dedication to build the skill and craft you need to succeed in the barber industry. It takes time to build up your name and identity.

What are some of your daily goals that keep you motivated?

I’m looking to continue my success and growth as a barber and businessman. Opening my own shop and branding myself has elevated my mindset. I am motivated by the work in front of me. Money doesn’t sleep.

What does “The Tropicanna Life” mean to you?

To me it's a lifestyle. When I think of The Tropicanna Life, it really is a way of life. I’m surrounded by beautiful weather, positive vibes, and good people. The Tropicanna Life can’t get much better than this.
